The third graders are working on their research projects using this Research Project Organizer. After considering five topics of interest, each student chose one topic and wrote a thesis statement in which they answered the following:
THESIS STATEMENT ~ QUESTIONS TO ANSWER
I selected this topic because the football field is the best place to let out your anger. Plus, when you tackle somebody, you don't get in any trouble. I will teach others the best way to play football. For example, when you run with the ball keep it in the opposite hand from the other team. In my opinion, football is a good running sport. I will prove to you that it can hurt when you get tackled.
I selected this topic on sharks because I like the way that they strike animals like the seal, plankton, and squid. I will teach others what could happen if you sneak up on the deadly great white shark. I will also a teach you about the different types of sharks. My opinion about sharks is that they kill more fish than people in the ocean, sea lake pond, and any other bodies of water. I am trying to prove that sharks are one of the worst house pets for you to have.
JAMAICA ~ Kevaughn 3G
I chose this topic because I came from Jamaica and I love Jamaica. Some people do not like the temperature in Jamaica because it is very, very hot. I will teach others that even though the temperature is hot, Jamaica is a very nice place. I am trying to prove that Jamaica is a nice place to live, have fun, play, and visit for a vacation.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ~ Argedis 3G
I selected this topic because it is about my country, the Dominican Republic. I like my country because it's never cold and it's never winter so it never snows but it does rain. I will teach others about why I like my country and why it's special to me. My opinion is that the Dominican is a wonderful place and I could stay there forever. I could chill out there for my whole life. I am trying to prove that if you visit, it will be really fun and it's the best place.
WEST VIRGINIA ~ Samantha 3G
I chose West Virginia because a lot of my family lived or lives in West Virginia. I will teach others facts such as the state symbols of West Virginia. My opinion is that West Virginia is exciting for someone from another state. It has a lot of barns and farms. If you are not used to that, it may seem weird. I want to prove that West Virginia is a very nice place.
DOGS ~ Jaylen 3G
I selected dogs because you can do lots of cool things with them. I will teach others that dogs don't always have to be mean. My opinions about dogs are that they are a nice pet to have because you can walk it while you are running or while you are going for a walk. I am trying to prove to people that dogs can be a helpful pet because they can go get the newspaper in the morning and they can keep you safe from people you don't know.

I chose this topic because dogs make people happy and they make good pets. I would like to teach others about dogs because some people might not know about dogs. My opinions about this topic are that dogs are not scary. They are cute and cuddly. I am trying to prove that dogs don't hurt you and dogs make you happy.

I chose kittens because I like to learn more about them and what they do. I will teach others how to take care of the kittens very well. My opinion is that I will like to support them because people usually like dogs as their buddies. I'm trying to prove that a kitten can be your buddy.

In my opinion I am trying to say that tigers are part of the cat and lion family. I am trying to prove that the tigers are the one of the two fastest animals.

I selected this topic because Dinosaurs it s interesting to learn about how they died. I will teach others how the Dinosaurs died. My opinion is that they died because of a volcano or because they had no more food. I'm trying to prove to people that Dinosaurs once lived in the world and that some Dinosaurs, like the T-Rex, had short arms.

I chose tigers because they are strong. They could kill people, but sometimes they are nice. I will teach people facts about tigers, for example: the tiger is the largest cat in the world; tigers are easy to recognize with their coats of red, orange and dark stripes. The tiger is a powerful hunter. It has sharp teeth, strong jaws, and a muscular body.

I selected this topic because I think the Earth is a good place to live. I will teach people not to pollute the Earth. In my opinion many people like the world. I'm trying to prove that the world needs to be fresh and clean.
TROPICAL RAIN FORESTS ~ Dharia 3J
I selected tropical rain forests because I want to know more about all the plants and the sounds of all the insects and the animals. I will teach others that we should not cut down anything in the tropical rain forests. I will also tell people that the atmosphere is opening. My opinion is that rain forests have all kinds of plants and animals that we have to protect. I am trying to prove that rain forests are different than dry forests because rain forests get rain every two minutes.

I chose this topic because I can learn about the exciting past when I study all about dinosaurs. I will teach others about what killed the dinosaurs. Was there a comet that killed them or a volcano? I will also teach others about how they fought and about what they ate.

I selected this topic because deer are wonderful animals and I want to learn more about them. I will teach others what deer eat and how they find food. My opinion is that deer are nice, harmless animals. I am trying to prove that deer won't harm you.

The reason I selected wolves is because I will learn more about them. I want to teach people more about them. I also want to teach others not kill them. My opinion is that you should keep wolves safe. I am trying to prove that you should not have them as a pet even though they're cool.

I selected lions because I think they are interesting. I will teach you all about lions. My opinion is that you should not kill them because I think that's cruel! I'm trying to prove that you shouldn't kill lions.

I selected this topic because I like snakes and how the poison kills people. In my report I will teach people how snakes move fast and how they throw their poison. My opinion about this topic is going to turn out when I work on it.

I selected this topic because I think the Earth should be clean. My opinion is that the Earth shuod be a nice place to live. I will teach otheres to keep the Earth clean.

I selected this topic because I like how scorpions use their poison to kill people. I will teach others to try to stay away from scorpions. I will also teach others about all kinds of scorpions. My opinion about scorpions is that they are very dangerous and that they can kill you. I am trying to prove that scorpions are very dangerous.
